1. Dedicated hosting is better because you will have your own computer on the Internet running your website. Virtual hosting is cheaper because you are sharing a computer with sometimes as many as 600+ other websites. Dedicated hosting requires that you have a knowledge of website maintenance and computer software, you will either have to administer it on your own or hire someone. Virtual hosting will probably suit you just fine and requires very little technical know-how.
2. What are you using the hosting for? Dedicated hosting is great, but you will be responsible for all upgrades, patches, security etc. If you have the necessary expertise and skill...then great. If not, go with a virtual hosting. The hosting provider will handle all the technical stuff. Only draw back is that you don't really control the server and also it is probably shared with other people. Go virtual to start. If you need more control, then get a dedicated server
