What are some reliable yet inexpensive hosting solutions for dedicated servers? I have developed a java based web application using struts, tomcat, mysql etc. I want to host all of these on a server (OS platform should not matter since it is all Java and mysql) that runs in some reliable data center. I want to get the benefit of all the managed services (they take backups etc right) but have my own server for dealing with the user-load and also that the Java apps dont run nicely on shared hosted systems (and they will not have all the tools and libraries we use). I am looking to see if there is any data center in India as well that has proven connectivity. Whatsoever information on this topic is much appreciated.
Shared web hosting or Dedicated? I run four sites (soon one more) and I'm paying around $50 a year to host each of them. I notice that the speeds aren't crash hot, but neither is the price I'm paying for them. The speed isn't an issue but for one site, though the new site I'm starting will need decent speeds to keep up. Storage on both services is plenty, so speed is my only concern. Is dedicated hosting (ie, one box that hosts all my sites) worth the $180 p/m cost, or are there cheaper alternatives for comparable speeds? I don't want to commit to something that expensive without knowing if I'm going overboard. Alternatives (or recommended dedicated hosts) welcome :)

high traffic Joomla hosting on Yahoo? I guess my main question is what type of host I need for my site, which will be built primarily using Joomla and a few other small apps, and for which I expect about a million page views a month. One approach is that I should spend $80-150 or so on a dedicated server or VPS. Yet, it makes sense to me (newbie) that Yahoo's $30/month program, which offers 500GB transfer- (10,000–1.2 million visitors/mo., according to Yahoo) would also be a great option. Is there is one objectively right answer here? Or if either one could work, what are the pros and cons of each? (Other service providers offer hosting at $8/ month or so, but I have found plenty of negative reviews for even the highest rated hosts. At this point, I am only considering using this Yahoo service or a VPS with my host of choice, Siteground.) Part 2 of the question is whether Yahoo is the right place to host Joomla. Any experience with technical problems or issues there? Remember I'm a newbie, so tech support is important. I guess I am making the assumpion that Yahoo hosting will have lower downtime rates than other hosts, and that loading speed will be competitive with others. Are these safe assumptions? After all the reviews I have read on other providers, I have concluded that there are always unsatisfied customers on every host. So my main question remains, do I need a VPS or dedicated server for my big site, or will a simple plan on Yahoo do the job as well?
I am planning on getting a dedicated server, what do you recommend? I have a small webdesign studio and I need the server to host my clients. The best deal I've found so far is godaddy.com what do you think of that company? What I need is: - Linux server with cPanel and unlimited domains - low cost - great stability, speed and great service what do you recommend?
Network of Dedicated Servers? I am looking for a number of servers (say 40 dedicated machines) each with their own IP, not in the same IP address range, spread around the world. It can be Linux of windows PCs. Does anyone know of a good solution or service for this? I have looked into EC2 from Amazon but they do not have the support I need. Ideas? Note: I am not looking for caching services or exclusively web hosting. The machines should have different external IPs, possibly different locations and also be able to run desktop windows applications. The servers will be working independently. They will also be running a .NET desktop application and another 3rd party windows application and need a connection to the internet. Linux or Mono wont work. Linux would work if the version support vmware.
Web Hosting Provider - Who gets my business? Our company has three different sites. One of which has a database on it which will need security for eCommerce. I would like to have a dedicated server, but the prices that I have seen are way over my budget. I would like to keep it under $100 a month. Does anyone have first hand experience with a web host provider that offers excellent customer service (that is in America & speaks English) and 0% downtime??? I appreciate your help.

Shared IP vs. Static IP for user from China, Why there are different? I have a website that had shared IP and hosted in USA before. It worked fine one month ago. But one day people from China couldn’t access my site. They got an error, “The page cannot be found”. There is no problem for USA user. Then my hosting service told me I need static IP. So I upgraded my IP and pay more money. Now my website is with dedicated IP. People from China can visit my site again. The problem goes away. Dose anybody know why? Do you have better solution?

massive bandwidth needed? hi guys, i have a downloads store i am currently setting up which will need to hog huge ammounts of bandwidth (around 5000gb a month / 5tb). i am looking for a decent priced hosting service that can genuinly offer me a service capable of taking this ammount. I have looked at 'unlimited bandwidth' companys, but we all know no one can realistically offer this service, and on ebay i have been offered a 'dedicated server' which says that this is no problem - for just £23 a month which sounds too good to be true. do any of you guys know of any decent host that can realistically deal with my needs? thank you so much people, karl

Host profiessional web server at Home? I need to host a dedicated server. Since I’ve 2 desktops but I only need one, I want to host IIS web server at home running ASP.Net with SQL Server 2005 like godaddy’s dedicated server. My questions are 1) Is there any web hosting company that can provide DNS service? Can godaddy provide that? Ex. When someone type www.mywebsite.com , I want the user to forward my home static IP. 2) As far as I know most COX ISP doesn’t provide fast upload speed. Can I request to COX to have more upload speed? Or is there any ISP that can provide fast upload speed 2Mbps or higher. Please do not mention about software prices and security issues. I'll be hosting on Windows Server 2003 on my computer. Thank in advanced.

We are starting a new VoIP company, thus we decided to use aplus.net dedicated servers. However, I've heard from many other VoIP companies that aplus provides a bad services and support, so please if any one know about this company tell me because I really need to start and I dont know with whom should i start working. remarks* our dedicated servers will be located in their new data center (Phoenix) Regards,
Microsoft-Yahoo Deal? I know Yahoo declined the recent Microsoft deal but what if Microsoft would sweeten the deal and yahoo excepts it, would the Yahoo brand die? I mean look Yahoo has a line-up of dedicated services like mail, messenger and now even Flickr with a host of users and with a merger how would they keep the loyal fanbase? Also if such a deal wouldn't work out then where do you think Yahoo would turn next and why?
is IP to IP (direct IP connection) for video chat possible?? I'm currently using Yahoo Messenger for chatting with webcam and notice that more often than not, the video streaming lags. While at the same time, I have this device from D-Link (DVC-1000 which is a stand alone webcam for video conferencing that turns your TV into a video conferencing device. Of course the other party should also have this device) and upon observation and comparison, I can't help but notice that when I use DVC-1000, there's no lag at all while YM based and/or MSN Messenger based video chats often has lags in video streaming. Could it be that D-Link's host server for this service is better and more dedicated for video conferencing than MSN and Yahoo?? Lastly, any of you guys have a much better host for FREE video conferencing that is better than MSN & Yahoo? And of course, nothing will beat I guess direct IP to IP video chatting as there will be no host to manage the process, is this direct IP to IP video chatting possible? If so, how do I set it up?

Is starting a SiteBuilder Web-Business a good idea? Hi all, I am starting a hosting business that hides the user from the complexities of setting up the website backend and only providing a dedicated website builder only (based on swsoft sitebuilder) services to include: - domain and email setup for the user - easy to use website builder - full support of email and builder products - targeted towards small/medium business that are not computer savvy - website fully hosted My question is, will a business like this likely generate sales enough to make the business profitable? Is the market way too saturated with businesses homestead, moonfruit, citymax, web hosters providing sitebuilders, and web designers? Also, are there any additional services I can provide to bring in more revenue apart from custom webdesign, or banner/logo editing? SR5k!
