Shared web hosting or Dedicated? I run four sites (soon one more) and I'm paying around $50 a year to host each of them. I notice that the speeds aren't crash hot, but neither is the price I'm paying for them. The speed isn't an issue but for one site, though the new site I'm starting will need decent speeds to keep up. Storage on both services is plenty, so speed is my only concern. Is dedicated hosting (ie, one box that hosts all my sites) worth the $180 p/m cost, or are there cheaper alternatives for comparable speeds? I don't want to commit to something that expensive without knowing if I'm going overboard. Alternatives (or recommended dedicated hosts) welcome :)

Which webhost(s) offer affordable, reliable, and easy to maintain dedicated hosting? I need suggestions for good webhosts that offer affordable dedicated hosting and support for people who don’t know much about managing their own server. I currently operate several high traffic sites and am in need of affordable (cost not exceeding $150 per month) , reliable (offers great support), and easy to maintain dedicated hosting (I know nothing about managing a server myself). I'd prefer to hear from people who have had actual hosting experience with the webhost. Thank you for your time.
How can I shape server traffic on a "Maximum Trafic" model (dedicated hosting plan)? OK. I'm looking at purchasing a dedicated hosting plan with a local provider. This provider offers 2000GB traffic into and out of the server. What I want to do is shape traffic into the server based on how much traffic I have left. Example: I start off with a budget of 2000GB a month (66GB/day). This comes down to about 6Mb/s continual use. Of course, servers aren't continually used like this, so just "capping" bandwidth to 6Mb/s would waste bandwidth on spikes. After half a month has gone by, I've only used 500GB of my bandwidth, leaving 1500GB/Month, or 100GB a day. Traffic can now flow at 9Mb/s and I won't go over. I want a system that allows me to use as much traffic as my "budget" will currently allow. Extra points if I can "borrow" bandwidth from the future to help "pay" for spikes. I want "always on" while keeping under my bandwidth budget. Any ideas?
Affordable, reliable dedicated hosting in Austin or San Antonio? I need a dedicated host, not VPS, in Austin or San Antonio. I am willing to spend up to $300/month, but would prefer $150-$200. I need to be allowed full root access to the kernel so that I can install (or have installed for me) my own linux operating system. Answer away!
Video Site script and a website with cheap dedicated hosting too run the site? Hello, im not exactly trying too make "the next youtube" its more for personal reasons. My current host doesnt allow streaming video (even though it says it clearly) for webhosting, incase your wondering its Hostgator. I asked them about it and even the dude at support didnt know it says it supports it... so he tells me too email support (since it was a chat session) and support tells me it just takes way too much bandwidth too allow webhosting have streaming video with some sort of video plugin FFMPEG .. so anyway they then tell me their dedicated server does.. but the prices are a bit high for me at this point and i wanna know if theirs a site that has a cheaper price.. if not then i have no choice but too use gators.. much thanks in advance :)

Should I buy a server OR use hosting companies dedicated server? I have just created a website that is guarenteed to get high bandwidth. I dont have a server(s) in fact I dont know much about servers. A hosting company has an offer for a dedicated server, I just simpluy upload my website to their server and they host the site. There offer includes UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH. However, they are charging £400 Per month. Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much it is to buy a server that would withstand high bandwidth. (im not talking YOUTUBE bandwidth here) however I would need a high amount of bandwidth. Also, If I do decide to buy a server and run my website from my own home, what internet providers would allow me to do this. as there is the "fair usage policy" Hope you can help....
Do i go for Dedicated Server or Shared hosting? I am starting up an online payment processing company like PayPal. I wanna know which option to go with. Dedicated or Shared hosting? Virtualized private hosting / dedicated resource hosting vs. Dreamhost? First off, I know this is a sort of rhetorical question :-) Basically my sites feel like they're outgrowing Dreamhost and I'm considering a virtualized private server such as this: http://mediatemple.net/webhosting/dv/ I'm just wondering how much the dedicated CPU and RAM will really improve performance. My sites are mostly blog-based and run pretty slowly on Dreamhost - posting comments, search, etc can drag and I'm worrying that it's making a bad impression on users. I'm assuming dedicated resources will greatly help the problem, but was hoping to find some sort of benchmark. Thanks!
Web Hosting Help. Need Cheap Shared Unix + Dedicated IP? I'm looking for a cheap web host with a dedicated IP address that is located in the United States. I was going to go with Galaxy visions but upon dealing with their sales/support staff I realized they were a VERY small company that could fold overnight. There is a sea of hosts out there, but not many in the United States that offer dedicated IP addresses for a good price...any suggestions?
web hosting semi dedicated? which are the best semi dedicated server providers available. let me know if anybody knows about the same..
Shared vs. dedicated vs. VPS / Virtual Private hosting? I'm currently on shared and would like to get more control over my host so that I can install various software and increase the functionality of my site. Faster db queries and whatnot with dedicated resources would be a nice plus! My problem is I don't have the traffic or resources to justify a dedicated box. I'm wondering if a VPS or virtualized host would be a good interim solution. This should definitely allow me to install my software, but I'm wondering if the performance would be any better with a relatively small virtual slice (256MB dedicated ram and a small chunk of the CPU reserved).
What are some reliable yet inexpensive hosting solutions for dedicated servers? I have developed a java based web application using struts, tomcat, mysql etc. I want to host all of these on a server (OS platform should not matter since it is all Java and mysql) that runs in some reliable data center. I want to get the benefit of all the managed services (they take backups etc right) but have my own server for dealing with the user-load and also that the Java apps dont run nicely on shared hosted systems (and they will not have all the tools and libraries we use). I am looking to see if there is any data center in India as well that has proven connectivity. Whatsoever information on this topic is much appreciated.
Who Would Be A Reliable Dedicated Web Host For A Relatively Large MP3 Site? Hi there, I am searching for a reliable dedicated hosting company that will be able to meet the needs of my future music site. On my site, users will be able to upload/ download mp3's as well as upload photos. I am not entirely sure what I am going to need in terms of plans, or how many page views(est: >300,000)/ mp3 downloads I will be getting a month, but know that I want to be on the safe side, and insure that there will not be a server overload, allowing at least several hundred people to access the site at the same time, without it slowing down. Users will be able to preview music as well , and I want to make sure that this function works smoothly without having connection issues due to too much activity at any given time. I am not entirely sure how many users will be uploading music, however, I am estimating that I will have over 50 GB of music on the site. I need a cost-effective solution, but do not want to cut corners with a plan that cannot support the site. Thank you! Sorry for not mentioning--these mp3's will be copyrighted by the users who uploaded. There will be absolutely no piracy on the site. Also meant to add, I have no interest in using shared hosting--These shared hosting companies sometimes put thousands of sites on the same server, and cannot deliver on the amount of transfer/storage that they offer. The sites have a "fair use" clause, and will instantly shut one's site down, if it's clogging up the server. Just to clarify, I am NOT expecting at least 300,000 downloads a month, but 300,000 page views. This is a very rough estimate, but would be about 10,000 page views a day.
Choosing a New Web Hosting Plan? I've been shopping for a new web host. I am confused about the bandwidth history of my current host. What is the difference between incoming and outgoing traffic? Last month my incoming traffic was 53.45 GB and my outgoing was 4.70 GB. When I get a new host, what's wrong with shared hosting? Why do people pay extra for dedicated? Is it just if you have web applications that require processing power? is media temple's gs a good option? when dreamhost or hostmonster seem to offer more for less? I'm hosting mainly static pages with some PHP 4, and using osCommerce. currently paying $150/month for dedicated hosting seems like too much. Can anyone recommend the best hosting plan/company for me? Here are some stats from awstats on the main site. (there are a few smaller sites on the server) http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/4619/picture1tz9.png http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8784/picture3px1.png why is the "traffic not viewed" so high? ...the regular traffic is so high because the last admin didn't like compressing images right now i have a dedicated server. too much, right?
The best, least expensive web hosting deal on the net? Can someone please provide me with a link to the best, least expensive web hosting deal on the net. It can either be shared hosting or dedicated hosting or free hosting or whatever. I'm just looking for the very best deals.
How much memory/disk/cpu do I need for my dedicated server? It's going to run linux, host a MYSQL database and time scheduling application that needs to be able to support at least 200-300 concurrent users. It is an AJAX application for time scheduling so there's no big number crunching going on or anything. Is the server side bottleneck more likely to be memory or disk or CPU? I don't want to spend more than I have to on dedicated hosting but I need to make sure my server is powerful enough to support the app.
